How can acupuncture and cupping help cyclists, you ask? These Traditional Chinese Medicine treatments are highly effective for pain management and can also improve a wide variety of health concerns that are key for a healthy athlete. Acupuncture, electroacupuncture, and cupping can be used together or as stand-alone treatments to help alleviate soreness, muscle spasms, back pain, neck pain, headaches, and sports-related injuries. They can also be used to support adequate rest and boost stamina.
How does it work? Typically, sessions commence by establishing health priorities and goals. Once our physicians have a complete picture for each individual, they are then able to customize treatment plans that may include acupuncture, electroacupuncture, cupping, and general dietary guidelines. If a medical condition is present, patients can be seen separately for full medical visits; otherwise, we are happy to collaborate with other medical providers.
The needling portion of the acupuncture visit consists of the physician administering small, sterile, and single use needles into various parts of the body. The process is virtually pain free. If there are no contraindications, electroacupuncture can be used to amplify treatment, as it has been found to be particularly effective for pain management. Cupping consists of applying vacuum-sealing cups to desired areas. These cups can help with relieving stagnation of metabolites and increasing fresh blood flow to the treated area. The entire appointment lasts up to 50 minutes, and patients leave feeling rejuvenated and ready for the next adventure!
